Hi, I’m Eric. I’ve been an airline pilot for 15 years, based in Germany and living in Belgium. I fly regularly to the US, Asia and Africa, and I’ve been passionate about aviation from a very young age. I’m 37 today, and flying is still what I love most.
Why this blog exists
This blog is called The Layover System because I’m obsessed with systems.
Not just flight systems, but real systems for life between flights: how to rest on a layover, how to sleep better on irregular schedules, how to pack and organize efficiently, how to manage money when you cross borders, how to keep your body and mind in a good state over the long term.
I started flying very early in life. I’ve learned a lot the hard way, and I now want to share what works.
What you’ll find here
On this site, you’ll find:
- Layover routines that help you recover and stay sane on the ground
- Sleep and recovery strategies for long‑haul and irregular schedules
- Travel gear and tools that I actually use and recommend
- Financial advices for travelling and how deal with multiple currencies
Nothing here is theoretical. Everything is based on my own experience, on trial and error, and on what actually works in real life.
What this site is not
This is not a guru site.
I’m not here to sell you a lifestyle or a perfect pilot image. I’m here to share practical, tested routines and tools that make life a little easier, calmer and more predictable.
